June 20, 2019

UNIPAK participated in the Innovation in Grapes and Cherries production exhibition that took place on 13 June 2019, at the faculty of Agronomy at Saint Joseph University, Zahle.

The conference – which was organized by NATAGRI and supported by the EU, the faculty of Agronomy at Saint Joseph University Zahle, Expertise France, the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute and the Chamber of Commerce of Zahle and Bekkaa – evolved around cherries and grapes production innovation throughout the whole supply chain. UNIPAK had a booth during the event, displaying the latest corrugated packaging innovations in the agricultural sector.

In addition, UNIPAK team member, Antoine Baz, presented a workshop about the benefits of corrugated packaging in the agricultural sector compared to plastics trays and introduced two products for fruits and vegetables in general – and for grapes and cherries in particular: the Punnet Trays and the Hybrid Trays.

The Punnet Trays:

Punnet Trays are sturdy small containers for fruits and vegetables, made of recyclable corrugated or solid board material. They can be customized in terms of size and branded with standard or high-resolution printing capabilities. They have ventilation holes to improve air circulation, keeping the fruits and vegetables fresh with longer shelf life.

Hybrid Trays:

Developed by IPC Innovation Centre, the Hybrid Trays are corrugated agricultural trays reinforced with engineered plastic corners, giving high packaging performance. They can be customized in terms of size and branded with standard or high-resolution printing capabilities. They have ventilation holes to improve air circulation, keeping the fruits and vegetables fresh with longer shelf life. The hybrid trays can withstand high stacking patterns, thanks to their strong compression strengths resistance.

The conference was part of the EU-funded private sector development program and was attended by around 600 farmers from the Bekaa and Zahle region.
